Is the .44 magnum recoil over rated?

* The 180 grain bullets are Comfortable to shoot, but the 240 and Heavier Bullets are Not* Comfortable, and are Physically Punishing to the hand, and wrist but are A-OK for Hunting and Self-defense purposes.* For shooting Target or Plinking use the 180 grain bullet.* For self-defense ammo use the jacketed hollow point bullets.* I carry my S&W Model 29 with a 6 inch barrel Outlaw Style.* That's between my Left hip and my belly button. More like a Cross-Draw.* Very comfortable way to carry for me.* Maximum effective range for Hunting purposes is 100 yards.*
