How to make a blackberry torch holster settings work for a blackberry curve 3G?

I went to a Telus store and asked for a pocket pouch holster for a curve 3G, and they gave me one that is meant for the blackberry torch. Now i thought it was fine, until I found out that the holster settings do not work with it, unless my phone is only halfway through the case. I am guessing this is because of the alignment of the magnet in the case. Is there any way i can adjust the magnet or something to get it to work with my phone?
